How I’m Raising a Confident Daughter While Building My Empire

How I’m Raising a Confident Daughter While Building My Empire

MaLaya on a laptopThere’s a moment I’ll never forget—MaLaya opened my laptop, looked me dead in the eye, and said,

“I have a meeting, okay? I’m working.”

didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or stand and applaud. In that moment, I saw myself reflected back in the most powerful way: through the eyes of my daughter.

Since she was a baby, MaLaya has watched me build something meaningful—whether I was taking Spanish lessons on Zoom, leading creative meetings, or consulting with clients. She’s made surprise cameos on camera, mimicked my gestures, and now… she tells her toy phones what to do. That’s when it hit me: I’m not just running a business—I’m raising a future boss.

Leading by Example Starts at Home

In a world that often questions whether women can “have it all,” I’ve chosen to show, not tell. MaLaya doesn’t need a lecture on confidence or leadership—she watches me live it.

She’s watched me lead teams, speak with clarity, and make strategic decisions. She's seen me work with joy and pause with purpose. And sometimes, when she feels I've had enough, she gently shuts my laptop and says, “No more working.” And I listen.

Because part of leadership is knowing when to be fully present—and when to set boundaries, even with ourselves.

Including Her in My Process, Not Pushing Her Aside

workplace with childs stuffWhen possible, I include MaLaya in my workflow. She helps me pack orders for LumiBloom, explores the design tools on my creative platforms, and gets to see the behind-the-scenes magic of building something from scratch.

I let her feel the pride of contributing. I want her to know that creativity, business, and motherhood aren’t separate lanes—they’re part of one beautifully complex journey.

Redefining “Balance” as Presence, Not Perfection

There’s no perfect formula. Some days I’m in my zone while she plays next to me. Other days, I close the laptop and spend the afternoon outside chasing joy, not deadlines.

The key is intention. I strive to show her what resilience looks like without pretending it's easy. I make space for play. I prioritize wellness. I let her see me lead and love out loud.

And in doing so, I hope I’m raising a daughter who feels safe to lead, free to dream, and powerful in her own skin—because she saw her mother do it first.
